Goal setting is something that was drilled into me while in grade school. The skill has served me well and helped me to accomplish many personal and professional objectives.
Many years ago, I shifted short term goal setting into a long-term #bucketlist . The list includes things I want to learn, places I want to travel, and things I want to experience. Each year, I check off at least one item on the list and sometimes add one more.
A top priority in the travel category is to visit all 50 states in the US.
Visiting all 50 states is going to take a while. So far, I am only 30% of the way there with 15 states visited. I count a visit as stopping in a state for a few hours and experiencing something. I don’t count driving through, ones I don’t remember as a child, or airport layovers. If I added those states I could include a handful more.
Here is the accomplished list:
- New York
- South Dakota
I hope to make it to the East Coast in then next few years as the states are much smaller and can get through many in a short amount of time.
Hopefully, time isn’t an issue to accomplish in my lifetime. Just in case, I will try to get experience a few more states before I am 40 years old.
To keep track of my bucket list items; I just use an Excel spreadsheet, but I found this site that looks like one interesting way to track life goals.
What is at the top of your travel bucket list?
How many states have you visited?
